What Do Mobsters Do? (that’s you & me!)
1. Identify a Small Biz/Nonprofit in need.
2. Propose/Join a mob and get people to sign up.
3. Mob the retailer, and with modest spending, buy things you need.
4. Take your goods home, or deliver them to the cause in need.
5. Get to know your fellow mobsters! Celebrate making a difference!
6. Document your experience through photos, videos, tweets, etc.
7. Rinse and repeat!
At all GoodMob events, there are three plus one “rules”:
1. Spend at least $20;
2. Meet three people you didn’t know before;
3. HAVE FUN!!!
And…
4. Bring a friend!
GoodMob? Sounds fun, what is it?
YES, it is! Calgary’s energy, curiosity, self-confidence & entrepreneurial spirit creates extraordinary environments ripe for experimentation, collaborations & exploration. But, the local economy needs help. People want to help, but don’t know how; what to do; or where to go.
GoodMob links small independent business owners & not for profits to a unique way to reach & engage their customers, members & donors, while supporting local business & community development at the same time. The idea behind GoodMob is ‘shopping with purpose’ or ‘experiential crowdfunding.’ We aim to bring a ‘mob’ of about 150 people who intend to shop at a local independent business. Modest spending by a large number of customers has the ability to create a big impact in a short amount of time. The profits from each GoodMob are intended to be invested back into the development of the business.
Not only that! Each business we GoodMob pledges to redirected a percentage of the dollars from the sales of the GoodMob to a local not for profit, charity, or civic group to better the work they do in the community. These groups provide volunteers & customers to the GoodMob through their network of stakeholders & supporters.
AND!!! Yes, there is more awesomeness! After each GoodMob event, the Mobsters re-convene at another nearby local independent establishment to meet one another as a ‘shared experience’ of community over a bite to each, a drink, or coffee. Everyone can peek in each other’s bags, talk about their GoodMob experience(s) & get to know each other to build a sense of community & neighbourhood. This establishment also commits to donate a portion of the proceeds of the social to the charity (or a charity, nonprofit, or civic groups of their choice).
